Ryuhaku Glaze Tea Bowl / Takao Tahara bookend The artisan’s pure spirit isTakao Tahara developed the Ryuhaku Glaze, or "flowing white glaze," inspired by the glaze on ancient Hagi ceramic fragments unearthed near the historic kilns in Sonose. He begins with a white glaze typical of Hagi ware as the base and then applies an ash glaze over it, creating a distinctive, rich color. For pieces featuring the flowing white glaze, he keeps the forms simple to convey a sense of dignified tension, as seen in this tea bowl. The rim of
